In network marketing there is a very small distance between success and non success. The reason a majority of people “fail” is because they quit too soon as a result of not having the right coaching and the right mindset. I hate telling network marketers that ALL they have to do is shift their mindset, because usually they take that as if I just work on myself I don’t have to take any action.

Let me preface that mindset and your inner self is 80% of the problem, and the other 20% that NEEDS to be taken seriously is the action part of your routine. Whether you’re in network marketing or traditional business, action is definitely required however when you have the right mind shift occurring, the action steps become much easier.

The purpose of this blog is to really share with you guys my true personal story in detail so that you can see how the simple act of making $500 a month to $10,000 a month was mostly JUST a mindset shift!

How I Shifted My Mindset To Allow $10,000 Per Month Income in My Network Marketing Company:

Most of you know that I stared network marketing when I was fresh out of college. I was working at Nordstrom at the makeup counter trying to make ends meet and at the same time trying to find a marketing job. What I rarely share with people is that I was constantly surrounded by negativity, and the worst part about it was that all of the negative people around me at my job were my best friends.

I would come home from work beat down and sad and constantly wonder why. Everyone was always competing for sales, there was ALWAYS drama, and at least twice a day one of the woman was crying about a sale or a customer. At this point in my life I took a long hard look at the people around me.

What I saw was a bunch of women who had been beaten by life, were not willing to take any risks to stay “safe” and some had even worked there and stayed in the same position their entire lives. I realized at that moment that I was on a dangerously similar path and had to change something.

Side Note –> What I’ve found coaching hundreds of people is that most people recognize they need a change, but are not pushed enough by their “why” or their situation to do what it takes. At this moment in my life, I was scared into network marketing which pushed me HARD.

I was scared into my primary network marketing company because I saw living proof of what my future looked like if I continued down the current path.

When I started my business however, I became complacent. I was comfortable enough to pay bills and have a little left over, so I didn’t “need” to make money necessarily, I just wanted to. At this time it wasn’t enough to push me to do the daily things in network marketing we sometimes don’t want to do.

I was in this state of mind for 5 months, and hadn’t signed up anyone!

So how did I go from signing up absolutely nobody in my network marketing company for five months, to two people the following week and fifty people within the following seven months?

I argue that the ONLY thing that got  me to where I am today was an event that caused a serious mind shift! I remember like it was yesterday, sitting in my car once again thinking about how I was going to have enough money for that dress I really wanted, or how I was going to have enough money to go out to dinner AND pay the utility bills. I was comfortable but not comfortable enough to not be constantly thinking about money.

My boss had just given me a terrible annual review that day as well because I was late ONE day (I later found out he was worried I was going to take his job). That day , while I was thinking about money problems once again, I made a simple decision. I said to myself, “I’m not going to worry about this EVER again! This is not how life is supposed to be and I’m going to work my ass off until I reach my goal and am financially free!” I was SICK AND TIRED of being SICK AND TIRED!

That simple decision changed my life. That day I had lunch with two of my co workers and told them about the business, and one joined. The day following my best friend joined my network marketing company as well.

Why didn’t they join before? I fully believe I got people into my business from that day forward because I had a conviction in my voice that people could sense. I told people that I was going to quit my job because of this business some day and how serious I was about making this work. People want to be a part of something and someone that’s making it happen, NOT asking “what do you think about what I’m doing?”

To keep your mind sharp and on the prize, always listen to network marketing CD’s and DVD’s that will motivate you. It’s so important to do this every day. Figure out what your why is and make sure it’s strong enough to keep you motivated. When you don’t give yourself a way out, you will have success 100% of the time! Too many people give themselves a way out and that’s why they end up quitting. Say to yourself you’re not quitting until it works, and you WILL be successful in this wonderful network marketing industry :).

Most people struggle with how to stay motivated with their traditional, OR network marketing business. The reason for this is today there are so many distractions out there it’s hard to stay focused for a longer period of time!

With social media it’s hard to read anyone’s profile or look at anybody’s website without seeing a new product, business or service being shoved in your face! Lately the question of how to stay motivated and focused on your current business is more and more prominent.

Motivation is not something that happens by thinking about money, cars or the big house you’ll have if you just “stick with it.” Motivation to own your own business and stick through the day to day grind comes from a deeper meaning that we’ll talk about here in a second.

How To Stay Motivated and Consistent:

First and foremost, mornings are possibly THE MOST important part of your day. Mornings can make or break your day for your business and your personal life. When you first wake up in the morning what are the phrases you say in your mind? Is it, “Oh geeze another morning and I’ve got to work, blah blah blah complain complain complain?” OR do you say “Today is going to be the best day ever” and set goals in your head of what you want to accomplish for the day.

Chances are you start out the day with negative feelings if you’re not seeing serious results in  your business. That is a sure fire way to attract no money and no customers.

Tips on How to Stay Motivated with Mornings:

1. When you get up, before you open your eyes, say in your mind “today is going to be a great day, best day ever, and this is what I’m going to accomplish. By the end of the day I will have…” and then say what your goals are for the day. This will set the pace for your perfect day ahead.

2. Meditate or work out – Some people like one over the other first thing in the morning, either way the point here is to clear your mind for a jump start to the day. Both release endorphins to get your mindset in the right place.

3. Make a list of goals for the day and don’t stop working until you’ve crossed every single one off your list. As humans when we make lists we love to cross things off. In fact, have you ever done something and then put it on the list afterwards just so you could cross it off right away? Haha so have I, so making a list is more powerful than you know and will keep you from distractions.

Some other Helpful Hints on How to Stay Motivated:

Mornings are by far the most important part of the day to set your business off on the right course, however there are a few more tricks throughout the day that can keep you on the right path.

1. Listen to motivating CD’s every single day. I like Profile of a Champion by George Zalucki, that’s a great one to put in your CD player that will keep you going. Also Ray’s new CD on how to maintain your power (also helps with consistency) is a great one on how to stay motivated…

2. Eat Healthy. Sounds Cliche but a clear mind works much better and stays much more focused than one that isn’t. Bad foods like burgers, fries and a lack of nutrition can seriously hold back your brain power.

If you do these simple steps, and teach your downline how to stay motivated as well you will create a massive leadership level.

Network Marketing Versus Traditional Business

Many of us are familiar with or have experience in both network marketing and traditional business, but do we really understand the major difference? In my recent prospecting I’ve found that a lot of the population is looking for extra money right now and hurting big time, but just doesn’t realize that there are other options out there.

In a down economy when people are losing their jobs left and right, no one feels secure depending on other people to keep food on the table with a job. We all recognize that jobs will never make you wealthy anyways. So what’s the alternative to not working a job but still wanting to create wealth in a down economy? There are really only two major options:

1. Network Marketing

2. Traditional Business

Some of you reading this today have no clue what these two categories entail, even though you THINK you do. Most are uneducated about the differences and about the overall gist of network marketing and traditional business, so I’m going to clue you in :).

Network Marketing Vs. Traditional Business

Let’s use a story about one of my friends to make this relative and really illustrate the difference between these two major categories:

Joe was working in corporate America as a big executive. He had a fancy office with a great view, a large amount of people working under him, made good money, and had a fancy title that he could brag about to people. Joe also happened to work 60-80 hours a week and barely got to spend time with his family, but his thought process was “that’s just the price you pay to live a great lifestyle and take care of your family.”

Every day that Joe drove to work, he passed his neighbor’s house. His neighbor, John, had a big, beautiful house. The house had bright green grass, a huge pool and lanai out back, large columns in front and big iron double doors. Joe envied his neighbor because every time Joe kissed his kids good bye at 7 am and got in his car to drive to work, his neighbor would wave from the front steps in a bath robe and then walked right back inside to spend the day with this family.

That day Joe made a decision. He knew that John owned his own business and was completely financially free, so he decided he no longer wanted to be part of the corporate rat race and he would go out on his own! It just so happened that Joe got laid off that day anyways, but he knew it was coming because his company had been in trouble for quite some time.

Joe didn’t panic, he already had a plan to open a coffee shop in his area.

A few months later he spent $250,000 getting his coffee shop off the ground and running and is so excited it’s finally ready to go! He hires a ton of employees, a manager, and holds a grand opening. Long story short, his employees kept stealing from the register, he ended up working 80-90 hours a week (even more than his job), made less money even after 3 years of being open for business, and was actually barely making a profit.

Joe was so frustrated and beaten down, he decided to go see John and ask him what he should do. John, his neighbor, was successful happy and free so he must know the answer. What do you think John did for a living? Network marketing! (this is a true story). John explained the benefits of network marketing vs. traditional business to Joe, even though Joe was skeptical because his unsuccessful brother and sister in law had tried one of “those things” and it didn’t do anything.

Network marketing has created more millionaires than any other industry, but unfortunately more times than most a lot of people have been so poisoned by the mass thinking that people don’t understand it’s true power.

Joe joined John’s network marketing company and after 2 years was making multiple six figures then went on to become a multi millionaire with the industry after 5 years.

Benefits of Network Marketing:

1. No boss

2. Low overhead

3.  Low start up cost

4. Unlimited profit potential

5. No employees

6. No headaches or emergencies

7. Financial and time freedom

Benefits of Traditional Business:

1. No boss

Most people think traditional business is “the way of life” because it’s been hammered into our minds over and over again. Of course there are many successful traditional businesses and I commend them for that, however there is also a lot of risk, capital and headaches that come with it.

I used to be a skeptic because I wasn’t properly educated on network marketing and I listened to the masses when I should’ve been paying attention to the people I wanted to model. I educated myself, got involved with network marketing 2 and a half years ago and now I’m the top female income earner and recruiter in my network marketing company.

I was a broke college student who didn’t know anyone, traditional business was not an option for me so I tried something new.

“If you want to get something you haven’t gotten, you have to do something you haven’t done.”

that was my motto for a long time and it’s gotten me to where I am today. I’m excited to be educating people today about what I do and creating a lifestyle for thousands of people through network marketing.

I just got back from Numis University and it was absolutely amazing! I think it was the best one yet. I say this in every blog I ever do, but I’m going to say it again:

My Biggest Takeway From the Home Based Business Mastermind

This past weekend’s home based business mastermind was honestly life changing. I LOVE hosting our own events and keep a look out because we will be having another one in the near future. What I really loved about this event was the intimacy and the amount of time each speaker had with the attendees. Each speaker had 3 hours to connect and really get to know the needs of the audience.

Even though Ray and I hosted the home based business mastermind, we learned so much from the other speakers. We brought down to Florida Noah St. John, Diane Hochman, Todd Falcone, and Jerry Clark to speak at this event. These four speakers are the best trainers and marketers in our industry. If you want the full experience I highly suggest making it to the next event, but today I’m going to give you my biggest take away from the event.

Biggest Take Away from Home Based Business Mastermind Event – How to Get Everything You Want in Life:

I’m going to be bold and guess that everyone reading this post today is either in a home based business, or looking into a home based business to change their financial future. With that assumption, I’ll tell you that you have the greatest gift in life, and that’s the gift of recognizing and taking advantage of the value of network marketing.

Some people treat their business like it’s a secret and it’s embarrassing to share. NO!!! You have a gift that needs to be shared with everyone you care about. By just accepting this fact and realizing that you are not GOD so don’t make decisions for people, you will alter your business in a huge way. If you don’t at least mention your business to your warm market and let them decide for themselves, you’ll look back and say “I shoulda, coulda, woulda” talked to the people I know. Just understanding this will take you to another level in your home based business.

You have to work on your mindset and simple business steps every single day! This is not rocket science and I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times, but this weekend gave me an amazing perspective about how to really make this possible.

Both amazing audios that will keep you pumped up and ready to take on the day’s struggles to get to where you want to be in your business.

Now, I am going to let you in on the “Secret” that will make your life ten times easier, and allow you to get everything you’ve ever wanted in your home based business:

If you want to be successful in your home based business, forget all about the internet stuff, blogging, articles, videos, etc, and focus on talking to people each and every day!!

But Jess, Where do I get people?? Hmm… Let’s see… there’s facebook, networking events, people you meet when you go out, people in your cell phone, the person that does your hair, the person that delivers your mail, online leads that you can purchase, craigslist, and the list goes on and on!

Now I know most of you saw the “facebook, craigslist and online leads” option and decided, “Oh, ok I’ll just do that since it’s more COMFORTABLE!” WRONG! You must do all of them if you expect to build a serious downline. We’re all taught to talk to people on a daily basis, yet no one wants to do that because they feel like it has to be more complicated than that!

It’s NOT! There are so many distractions today in the home based business industry telling you to go here and go there and do this and do that, when in reality the simple principles of home meetings, talking to people and being consistent are all you need to worry about. These all still apply today. 90% of you reading this are still going to try and complicate things and do it the “guru” way, but that’s ok. It’s just a statistic.

If you want to be part of the 3% of the population that gets things done, it’s a simple fix, get things done ;0! Today make it a goal to go out and talk to 5 people, I don’t care where they come from. Just TRY this for a week and see what happens. 5 people a day for a week that you mention your home based business to.

Last  night my MLM company put on a great corporate event with some amazing training, and I learned some great things. A large percentage of people fail at network marketing (which is the case for every corporate venture as well), but I wanted to know why when we have such a simple, step by step business?

What most network marketers don’t realize is that they are looking in the wrong places to get their business up and running…

Why People Don’t Succeed in MLM:

 

The most important thing to keep you motivated and successful is to constantly plug in! Then when you start plugging in, your team will begin to as well and that’s where massive duplication happens!

Important Things to “Plug Into” in Your MLM Business:

Here are the best ways to stay motivated and have major breakthroughs in your business. Most of us think that when we’re failing in an MLM it’s because we don’t have the “how to’s” for building the business, and that’s simply not the case. The “How To’s” are all around us if we just look for them. The real problem is our inner mind and what’s going on upstairs.

You’ve probably heard that a million times in different MLM trainings, but the reason you’ve heard it so much is because it’s so true! You won’t hear 1 person who’s successful say they did it all alone and without some type of mentor to get rid of their head trash. Everyone needs self development and the best way to get it is through these things:

1. MLM Events –

Events are one of the most important things you can do for your business. If you don’t attend major corporate events or team meetings, neither will your team or anyone you sign up in the future. Events are where serious breakthroughs happen and you start to double or triple your income in your MLM business.

2. Webinars –

These are especially important if you’re upline isn’t local. With our primary company we have webinars every week with new training. If someone is doing something that works, we interview them and get them to train on one of our webinars which can be extremely valuable!

3. Meetings (weekly or monthly)

4. Audio CD’s –

Also an extremely important thing to plug into. Your car should be a library of self motivation and entrepreneurship. It should be as if you’re going to school for an entrepreneur and motivation degree. Most successful people, if not all successful people in MLM, listen to educational and motivational audio CD’s EVERY DAY!

Test yourself.

See what happens if you attend at least 2 events a week for the next month. I guarantee you’ll have a better understanding of where you’re going with your mlm business, and you will start to see great results. Imagine if you combined this with massive action for a year!! You would be making above and beyond the type of income you ever thought possible.

MLM Training for Duplication, Why Some Do and Some Don’t

There are many MLM training blogs and articles out there that talk about how to sponsor, how to get leads, etc. What happens after you’ve sponsored someone and you now have to help them with their business?

I firmly believe that duplication is the best mlm training you can possibly give someone. Duplication is why we do this business. Who wants to work really hard for 40 years and have nothing to show for it after you stop working? I would much rather work really hard once, and have leaders in place so that my checks keep going and going like the energizer bunny :).

Duplication is easy when you know how to approach it properly.

MLM Training For Your Reps:

Personality Traits:

When you’re in a network marketing company for years, you meet all kinds of different people. The personalities you come into contact with are endless. There are so many different types of people out there how can you keep track of who does what best?

In order to do the proper mlm training with your team, you need to understand their different personality types. A lot of mlm gurus say you have to understand personalities to get them into your business and understand the way they think. This is DEFINITELY true, but when it comes to the duplication part of things, you need to understand the personality for one specific purpose: to know if they are the type of person that will waste your time, or if they really are serious about building a business!

When you are building a large team, your time is extremely valuable as your time management will dictate your success. You will come into contact with A LOT of time wasters, a.k.a people that talk about all the great things they’re going to do, and then never do them. I’m sure you’ve heard Ray talk about how “you can’t push a rope,” and that is very true with mlm.

With certain people you need to recognize that no matter how hard you try, you can’t make them do what they need to do to build a huge business. Here are some traits that “time wasters” possess:

1. During the mlm training process, they over commit and talk a ton about their action plans, and then you don’t see any action. (e.g – talk to 50 people per day).

This is not a realistic expectation and I will tell my rep this if they give me this response. Clearly they have not spent a lot of time weighing their time per day and how many people they can realistically talk to on a consistent basis. If this happens, don’t be afraid to tell your rep that if they are not going to follow the program and system that’s proven to work, they are wasting their time and yours.

2. They are complainers

This seems like an obvious one, but a lot of times you’ll see complainers do it sneakily where you wouldn’t necessarily recognize it. For example, they email you about spill over or about how their prospects in their area are not ready for this business. These seem like legitimate problems, but in reality these are just excuses that need to be brought up in your mlm training.

These are the two most obvious ones, but if someone is taking away too much of your time, focus on the people that are legitimately working hard to make things happen, not on the people who are struggling to take action.

Focus on Producers

This is a common misconception. Most people want to help the people that are struggling and not building a business, vs. focusing your time and energy on people that are. Producers are where you want to spend a majority of your time.

Obviously if someone reaches out to you make sure you help them, but if you have a leader, focus on how you can sky rocket their team and how you can teach their people to do the same. When you reach below the leader and help his/her people, then the leader will get pumped up and produce even more.

Create a Duplication System

When Ray and I recruit a new rep, we immediately send them to our mlm training page and tell them to go through the steps. These steps consist of video tutorials of all the questions a new person might have about our network marketing business and how to build.

Since we have this training in place, all of our downline, not just our personal sign ups, can use this for their teams as well. This creates a massive line of duplication and everyone working in unison. If you do not have a step by step process set up in your company or with your leaders, you should definitely correct this right away. People want step by step mlm training and leadership that will duplicate.

How to Increase Retention in Your Network Marketing Company

Whether your product is juice, makeup or gold and silver coins, there is a simple step – by – step process for keeping retention strong in  your network marketing company.

This post was inspired by the recent holidays and new years, because I find that there are two things that happen with retention in that time period:

1. volume spikes up to incredible numbers

2. volume decreases because people get lazy

So what do you do to keep steady retention, even at historically lazy times in network marketing history?

Increase Retention in Your Network Marketing Company:

I have a lot of team members that say that what I’ve shared with them has increased their retention by up to 90%! And trust me, these techniques work for any network marketing company and are simple to implement.

1. Hold Weekly Meetings, Webinars or Conference calls

When you get serious about building a team, chances are a majority of them will be from around the country. Even if they are local it always helps to have some kind of weekly “get together” where everyone can stay plugged in. Staying plugged into weekly trainings is key to higher retention. The LAST thing you want your team to feel is all alone in your network marketing company.

A good example of this is our weekly webinars and conference call trainings. Every Tuesday Ray and I have a members only training where we interview different people in our network marketing company that are having success to see what they’re doing. This keeps people involved and learning new things.

2. Be the Example in Your Network Marketing Company:

When you take time off, your team will take time off. This is a pretty obvious step, but just assume that everything good you do will be duplicated 40% of the time, and everything bad that you do will be duplicated 90% of the time. This means you have to be the example for your team and even the entire network marketing company you’re involved with.

Retention comes from the leader being consistent and showing your downline how to take action. If you are on the sponsor and hope program, you will never build a huge business.

3. Consistently Back up Belief in the Product:

We all know that whatever your network marketing company is, you have to have belief in the product in order to promote it. It is our jobs as leaders to spread that belief as much as possible through the rest of the tree.You need to create buzz and excitement about your product and help your downline realize it’s importance.

Here are a few ways to spread belief about the product:

1. Product Demonstration in Meetings/Presentations

When you present your opportunity, use the product for demonstration. Have people feel it, touch it, taste it (if that’s your product), anything to get them involved and sensing what it would be like to have this product all of the time.

2. Spread Fun Facts About Your Network Marketing Company’s Product

Whenever I find out some interesting history about my product or a fun fact, I spread it to my downline or post it on my facebook. No matter what your product is, try finding out something unique about it that will create some excitement.
